You Have Always Lived In the Lighthouse is a storytelling RPG for two players inspired by the works of HP Lovecraft and Guillermo del Toro.
One player will become the Keeper, the keeper, the master of the Lighthouse and the brave soul charged with keeping its beacon lit. The other player will take on the role of the creature, a being from the depths of the ocean who has come to the Lighthouse with a mission all its own.
You Have Always Lived In The Lighthouse uses a standard deck of 52 playing cards to create organic story moments and facilitate genuine conversation between players. Over the course of the game, the Keeper and Creature will play sets of cards. These sets serve two major purposes. The first, is they allow either player to add elements to the narrative: powerful enemies, dangerous weather, or emotional conflict are just a set of cards away. The second purpose is to resolve conflicts and tie up elements of the story. Like the tide ebbs and flows the game is a constant push and pull between players adding elements and resolving them in ways that fit their shared narrative.
Gameplay is simple and intuitive, allowing both experienced veterans and newbie role-players to pick up the system and jump in quickly.
A shared GM rule set means both players have agency and the power to shift and shape the story to their whims.
